First War of Independence

Project Abstract

The First War of Independence was fought between 1857 and 1858. The war was fought majorly in the northern parts of India. The war literally shook the confidence of the British and as a result of this war the Government of India Act of 1858 was formulated which shifted the power of India from the hands of East India Company to the Queen. The war was fought between the native sepoys of the East India Company against their officers who were British. The main cause as we all know was the greased cartridges of Pattern Enfield rifle. But is it the only reason? Was there a revolt like this before 1857? You will surely get some of the answers here. Happy surfing.
